A Cornucopia of Kittens: Unproductive Kittens

Guess what? The kittens are learning to climb stairs!

Unfortunately, they tend to just tumble back down, but they’re starting to get the hang of it!

And the kittens end up in the cutest places.

Like trees,

And under stuffing!

So watching them is really entertaining. Like when they attack the pencil on the coffee table.

Unfortunately, this means they are also very bad for my productivity. Like when I was trying to trim up t-shirts for my quilt.

And the kittens aren’t the only culprits. Gypsy’s just as bad, if not worse.

I have sad news, guys. This Thursday, if the Shelter has room, I will be taking Phoenix, Griffin, Dragon, and Lorelei back. We finished deworming them, and they’re more than old enough to go back.

This is exactly what deworming them looked like. Only Pooka was the only one who actually stayed still like this, so she was the only one I got a picture of.

I will be keeping Pooka for another week, and Gypsy for another two weeks. Why the three-step process? For a couple reasons. One, Pooka is so tiny I think she must’ve been the runt of her litter. She’s probably younger than we first thought, and is a little farther behind in development than the others were so I want to keep her around for a little while longer. Plus, I want to give her a week to gain some more weight without having to compete with four older, bigger siblings for food.

Two, you’re always supposed to keep the momma cat at least five days longer than the kittens. It gives you a chance to see how she acts without the kittens around, and make sure she’s healthy without needing to concentrate on having kittens under foot. Gypsy’s pretty skinny, so again, I want her to have the chance to gain weight without competing with her children for food, and having to nurse.
