Goodbye to Gypsy!

Last Friday, we took Gypsy back to the Animal Shelter. All the kittens have been adopted, and the whole foster-adventure is over.

Here is our very last picture of Gypsy:

I’m still working on adding Griffin’s and Pooka’s pictures to the growing video. Hopefully it will be up soon!

Okay, weeks after all the kittens have been adopted, I've finally completed their slide show!

Bye Bye Kittens!

Okay, due to having been sick for the past week, I haven’t updated at all. Which I’m sure you all noticed. However, yesterday, Griffin and Pooka were taken back to the Animal Shelter. And (as I couldn’t go, being sick and all) I heard that Dragon, Lorelei, and Phoenix were all adopted!

And here are Griffin and Pooka’s last daily pictures:

 Griffin, 66 days old

Pooka, 62 days old

(Videos coming soon!)

Also, extra pictures that I never got to post!

We still have Gypsy, the momma, with us. And we’re pleased to notice that she’s steadily been gaining weight. Next Thursday, we’ll take Gypsy back, and this foster-adventure will finally, sadly, come to an end.

And Then There Were Two

We took Dragon, Phoenix, and Lorelei back to the shelter today.

Wait, we forgot our bags!

A few of the volunteers that were there oooh’d and awww’d over them, and they are adorable and friendly, so I know they’ll get adopted soon.

So now we just have Pooka and Griffin at home.

Oh, yeah, they look sweet. What you don’t see is that as soon as I took the picture, Pooka turned around to bite Griffin on the nose.

We decided to keep Griffin an extra week too because he has the sneezes, and we wanted it to clear up before we took him back.

It feels a little odd to go downstairs and not be greeted by a swarm of kittens trying to trip me up while I feed them. But hey, now it might be easier to clean out their litter boxes.

EDIT: Know all those daily pictures I take? Well, here's what I've done with Dragon's, Lorelei's, and Phoenix's:

Attack!

In the past couple weeks, the kittens have gotten quite rambunctious. I once came into the room and Dragon’s back was arched and his ears were flat back, and Gypsy was hissing and growling at him like my cat does just before she attacks the strays that live—lived, rather—in our neighborhood.

Naturally, with the kittens getting a little rebellious and obnoxious to their momma, Gypsy, like any good mom, must discipline them. This is hilarious to watch.

After a sound thumping from mom, the kittens sit still, staring up all alert, like their promising they’ve been good, really, and they don’t know why that just happened. Then they turn and pounce on a sibling’s tail.

Of course, they don’t just like attacking each other. For some odd reason, my fuzzy, colorful slippers are one of their favorite toys. It’s adorable to watch, and annoying since they usually try this when I’m walking. I just had to take a video of the most common offender, Pooka. Because it’s hilarious.

Unproductive Kittens

Guess what? The kittens are learning to climb stairs!

Unfortunately, they tend to just tumble back down, but they’re starting to get the hang of it!

And the kittens end up in the cutest places.

Like trees,

 And under stuffing!

So watching them is really entertaining. Like when they attack the pencil on the coffee table.

Unfortunately, this means they are also very bad for my productivity. Like when I was trying to trim up t-shirts for my quilt.

And the kittens aren’t the only culprits. Gypsy’s just as bad, if not worse.

I have sad news, guys. This Thursday, if the Shelter has room, I will be taking Phoenix, Griffin, Dragon, and Lorelei back. We finished deworming them, and they’re more than old enough to go back.

I’mma burrito!
This is exactly what deworming them looked like. Only Pooka was the only one who actually stayed still like this, so she was the only one I got a picture of.

I will be keeping Pooka for another week, and Gypsy for another two weeks. Why the three-step process? For a couple reasons. One, Pooka is so tiny I think she must’ve been the runt of her litter. She’s probably younger than we first thought, and is a little farther behind in development than the others were so I want to keep her around for a little while longer. Plus, I want to give her a week to gain some more weight without having to compete with four older, bigger siblings for food.

Two, you’re always supposed to keep the momma cat at least five days longer than the kittens. It gives you a chance to see how she acts without the kittens around, and make sure she’s healthy without needing to concentrate on having kittens under foot. Gypsy’s pretty skinny, so again, I want her to have the chance to gain weight without competing with her children for food, and having to nurse.

So here are the kittens weekly portraits, the second-to-last you’ll see of all but Pooka’s!

Nap Time!

So, last post I gushed talked about how active the kittens are, right? Well, this time, I figured I’d talk about how much the kittens sleep.

Sssh, I’m sleeping!

I’m sure I make it seem like the kittens are non-stop play. Well, it’s more like they’re almost-non-stop play. They run around like maniacs for the better part of an hour, and then are suddenly, inexplicably curled up in a pile by your side.

Yes, like this, exactly.

And they look so sweet, that you just don’t want to move and suddenly your legs have gone numb and you desperately want to move but awww, look it, one of them just yawned!

But yes, these kittens do actually sleep a lot.

And Pooka, being the youngest and tiniest and not having as much energy as the others, sleeps the most.

I almost wish I felt comfortable sharing pictures of myself and my family on here, because I have some great shots of the kittens cuddled up right next to our chins. Ah well, you will have to be content with those other pictures instead!

And, I know, I’ve missed several weeks of posting up the kittens’ daily pictures. So here they are, taken today!

Griffin, 49 days old

Play Time!

I’ve been horrible about updating, I know, I apologize. Can you believe that the kittens are going to be old enough to return to the Animal Shelter and go up for adoption this Saturday? Naturally, I’m going to be keeping them for an extra two weeks, just to make sure they’re well-socialized and healthy, you know. Except for Pooka, who’s at least a week younger than the others. We’ll keep her a little longer, since she’s so tiny.

And the kittens are so adventurous now! You remember in my last post how I said they were trying to help us put together our puzzle? Well, the kittens no longer are trying to help us put together the puzzle. Now, they’re more interested in playing with the puzzle boxes.

It’s mah boat

And, well, any box will do. They just seem to like boxes.

Box tiem!

They seem to have this game of hide-and-seek going on, where one will sit in the box, and another will prowl around outside. The one in the box will bob up and down, watching the one outside the box, while the one outside the box will try to catch them when they’re bobbing up and pounce on them.

Got ya!

Okay, so it’s more like whack-a-mole than hide-and-seek, but it’s still hilarious to watch.

This has nothing to do with the rest of the post, but my little sister got an adorable picture of Griffin and Lorelei hiding under her drawing pad. So I’ll leave you with this cuteness!

Also, you might notice from the slightly blurry quality of most of these photos that it is remarkably hard to get a clear picture of kittens on the move.
